Dear GERA Member,
Through the collective efforts of many, GERA has
become a vibrant professional organization that promotes the
interchange of scholarship in education. Past November’s 30th annual
conference was
one of the best, giving many scholars from across the state,
nation and the world a venue for presenting their scholarship to us.
Now that our peer-reviewed journal, Georgia Educational Review Online,
has been revived, those who conduct research in the field of education
can access our work as well. The future of GERA depends upon members
like you to keep our association strong. We need members to assume
leadership positions, review manuscripts, serve as moderators during
the conference and help develop our new web site GAera.org . Please consider serving
the
organization as:
President-Elect – The
president-elect organizes the upcoming conference, serves as president
in the following year and continues on as past-president in the third
year.
Member-at-Large- Serving for
three years, a member-at-large is part of the executive committee. The
executive committee ratifies matters pertaining to the conference,
approves/disapproves financial requests and reviews conference papers.
Graduate Student Representation
– Serving for one year on the executive committee, the graduate student
representative is actively pursuing a graduate degree in education.
Duties include advising the executive committee on student member
concerns, helping the president-elect with conference organization and
as a session moderator.
Reviewer – The association
needs scholars to review conference session proposals and journal
submissions. Please note your area(s) of expertise when responding.
Session Moderator – During the conference, a session moderator gives
presenters equal time to present their scholarship, facilitates the Q
and A discussion and keeps their assigned session running on time.
Please indicate your area(s) of expertise when volunteering to serve as
a session moderator.
Web Developers – Our new web
site GAera.org opens many exciting possibilities for our association.
We need those who can contribute as writers and/or offer technical
assistance to the expansion of our Internet property.
In addition to volunteering your services, please
nominate your colleagues (with their permission) for these positions as
well.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Sharon Livingston
President, Georgia Educational Research Association
